Offering one of the high purses for state open tournaments, the Vermont Open has proven to be a very popular event, regularly attracting professionals from across the Northeast and Midwest.

Lake Morey has hosted the Open for over 50 years, making its debut in 1955. Jay Dolan and George Kinsman each won the event three times with current PGA Senior Tour star, Dana Quigley, winning it twice.

The 2007 championship provided the fans and media with a lot of excitement. Trevor Murphy was the first Vermonter and the first amateur to win the Vermont Open since 1960. He broke the all time scoring record by shooting 17 under par for 54 holes. He is from St. Johnsbury VT and plays his college golf at UNC/Charlotte.
